yern is a calm dating app for Bay Area adults burned out by the swipe economy. Users get up to five people a day at 3 PM, one at a time, and every match is mutual. Conversations run on a 24-hour window that stops expiring the moment two people set a real date. Afterward each person privately answers how it went, and that answer feeds preference learning. yern ships pace controls, a pause mode that holds your place, and mental-health resources, and the dating itself is free. It was built by founder Kyle Bassett in Oakland and is in invite-only alpha. yern.dev
About Kyle
Kyle Bassett is a broadcast and technical producer in Oakland, California, building yern by himself. He started the company because dating apps left him and the people around him burned out, and he wanted something calmer instead. yern is the product of that decision.
Kyle Bassett is a broadcast and technical producer based in Oakland, California. He is building yern on his own, end to end: product, design, and code. The idea came from his own experience with dating apps, which left him feeling more burned out than met. He wanted to build something calmer: a smaller number of matches each day, real conversations instead of endless swiping, and space for pace controls and mental-health resources alongside the dating itself. yern is currently in invite-only alpha in the Bay Area, where Kyle lives and is building it.
